Middle East - Bill Clinton is desperate
Bill Clinton is approaching the end of his reign over the so-called greatest
country on earth, the USA. If there is one thing he would love to do, that would
be to bring peace between the Jews and the Arabs, which many feel is not
possible owing to the brevity of time.
Why all this interest over the Middle East? In particular the little land of
Israel, the land bridge between the three great continents of Asia, Europe and
Africa? How is it that the eyes of the world at this time in particular are
focussed on that area?
It has been my privilege to tour the area of the Holy Land at least 17 times,
and owing to our numerous trips, we were recently granted the privilege of a
free visit taking along with me a number of friends, who were also involved in
Christian ministry. This was the trip of a lifetime, paid for in the main by the
Israeli Government, who recognise our interest in that part of the world.
Many of our trips have been at a very dangerous time and in particular the
threats that General Gadaffi was making some years ago was a worry as we flew
over his territory. When we looked down into the Mediterranean Sea, we observed
the American sixth fleet stationed just off the coast of Libya to act as a
buffer should Gadaffi fulfil his threat to shoot down passenger planes crossing
his area. Once our Israel trip was accomplished, we then had to fly back to Rome
and it was exciting to look out the window to see the jet streams from two
Israeli fighter jets that accompanied us past Gadaffi's country.
Landing in Rome there was a tank with its barrel pointing right up the
gangway as we came down and Israeli passengers white with fear clambered down as
quickly as they could to escape the trauma and tension that they had endured
during their trip from Tel Aviv.
During another visit, we were conducting a communion service in the Garden
Tomb area, and just as I was handing out the bread and the wine there was a
sound of gunfire just over the wall on the Temple Mount. We were horrified to
learn later that 21 Palestinians were killed at the very same time that we were
celebrating the memory of our Lord Jesus Christ in the taking of the bread and
the wine.
The reason Bill Clinton is so keen to finish on a good note is, that he is
terrified of possible court cases that he will have to endure over his various
misdemeanours while he was in power. It is his longing to leave some sort of a
good name behind.
However, it would pay Bill to read the Scriptures very carefully and discover
God's plans for Israel before he tries to assist in any way whatsoever. God's
mind is already made up as to the final status of that land.
At this point we must point out that we are certainly aware of the problems
facing the Arabs living in that area. They too need to recognise that in this
particular case it is not a squabble between Jew and Arab, but a fight between
the God of Israel and spiritual forces out to change God's plan for the Holy
City of Jerusalem and the Jewish race. We have no doubt at all that because God
so loved the world, His love extends to all nations including Arabs and anybody
else who is interested in gaining a foothold in the city of Jerusalem. In the
fullness of time every other nation will be dealt with as God intends, but in
the mean time we must listen to what He says in His Word and go along with Him
as He is the final authority and in a day to come will be the great leader of
this world in which we live.
A prophecy from Isaiah 9:6, "For unto us a child is born, and unto us a son
is given, (and 2000 years later) and the government shall be upon His shoulder
and His name shall be called Wonderful, Councillor, The Mighty God, the
Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace."
It is clear that the child that was born, the son that was given was God's
lamb that came to die for the sins of the world, but very soon He is returning
as the lion of the tribe of Judah and will finally set up His reign from that
wonderful city, the city of Jerusalem, sometimes called the City of God. It is
for this reason that the eyes of the world are focussed on this area at this
particular time, as that 2000 year period is rapidly approaching the end.
Although many people think the problem is to do with land rights or so called
Palestinians, who actually are purely Arabs, this is not really the case. The
word Palestine is the word which the Arabs like to use for that particular area
at the end of the Mediterranean Sea and has connotations that link it with the
word Philistine well known to those of us who understand the story of David and
Goliath.
The true name of the area is Israel and in 1967, when the Arab nations came
against Israel during one of their wars, the padres gathered the Israeli troops
together in the various areas, and read to them the Scriptures Psalm 83:3-5.
"They have taken crafty council against thy people, and consulted against thy
hidden ones. They have said, come, and let us cut them off from being a nation,
that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance. For they have consulted
together with one consent, they are confederate against thee."
And then again in Jeremiah 11:19. "But I was like a lamb or an ox
that is brought to the slaughter, and I knew not that they had devised devices
against me saying, let us destroy the tree with the fruit thereof and let us cut
him off from the land of the living, that His name may be no longer in
remembrance."
What name is that? The name Israel.
Therefore it is important for the reader to understand that in spite of the
so called war that is being conducted at the moment, it may get worse, as this
depends on the leadership of that country. At this moment of writing , at the
beginning of the year 2001, there are three men who are standing for the
position of Prime Minister. I refer to Ehud Barak, Shimon Peres, and Ariel
Sharon. Ehud Barak has gone down in the polls, Shimon Peres is well known for
bringing peace in the past, along with Yitshak Rabin. But the man who appears to
be front runner at this moment is Ariel Sharon who is more interested in war
than anything else and force as a means for bringing about his desires for that
area. Therefore do not discount the fact that Saddam Hussein of Iraq and even
the people of Iran, along with Syria, Lebanon and Jordan, and even possibly
Egypt may become involved in the very near future in that area.
There are various forces in the world today who are setting up a One World
Government, and these people follow the philosophies of a German philosopher
called Hegel. It was Hegel himself who said, "There can be no change in
history without a conflict", and therefore in order that a Mid East peace
might be brought about, it would seem that a war is inevitable in the very near
future.
Whatever happens there shortly, recognise that the city of Jerusalem, in God's
planning, should never be divided up and partially handed over to any other
group than the Israelis.
Zechariah 12:3 "In that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for
all people, all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though
all the people of the earth be gathered together against it."
Secondly the Temple Mount problem can never be settled by human intervention.
We quote from Revelation 11:1-2,
"There was given me a reed like unto a rod, and the angel stood saying, rise,
and measured the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein.
But the court which is without the temple, leave out, and measure it not, for it
given unto the gentiles, and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and
two months."
It is clear that the area above the wailing wall where the Muslim mosque
stands called the Temple Mount, is to be left alone so that God Himself may
settle it when Jesus returns. The tribulation period, of course, being three and
a half years is referred to as forty two months, so therefore at the end of the
Tribulation period our Lord Jesus will return on the Mount of Olives, split it
in half, come down through the Valley Kidron, walk in through the Golden Gate,
establish His temple and at that stage He will deal with any other sacrilegious
building which happens to be on that site.
Some may accuse us of intolerance in writing an article like this, and yet it
must be recognised that when God speaks and makes decrees we are not dealing
with a man, we are dealing with Almighty God, who can do exactly what He wants
to do.
In the mean time we press on excitedly watching to see who the new Prime
Minister of Israel will be, watching also for a non-religious Jewish world
leader to move in shortly and bring about a seven year peace treaty in that
area, which he will break after three and a half years. Whichever Prime Minister
comes to power out of those three mentioned, they have all made it fairly clear
that they will not allow the right of return to approximately 4 million Arabs
who claim to have been displaced from the area as that would upset the balance
of power, which is at this moment in favour of the Israelis.
The end of the generation is upon us. The Word of the Lord is being fulfilled,
Christ is about to return, our Master, Lord and Saviour. The Jews in that day
will recognise Him and rejoice that He has come once and for all to deliver them
from all their enemies.
Zechariah 14:9, "And the Lord shall be King over all the earth, and that
day shall there be one Lord and his name one."
